I'm staying with friends this weekend. I use nighttime protection and will have my own things with me. They're kind people; I'm still rehearsing a conversation they haven't asked for. How do you decide what to mention?

I tell a host anything they actually need to know about the room or laundry. The rest stays mine unless I want to talk about it.
I once asked for somewhere private to keep a small bag. The answer was 'the bottom drawer is empty'. I'd prepared a speech. They offered a drawer.
That is very close to what I'm doing in my head. A drawer-sized conversation would be nice.
Back from the visit. I asked about the bathroom bin, brought my own supplies and had a good weekend. Most of the actual conversation was about their kitchen renovation.
The kitchen renovation claims another weekend. Glad it went well.
